Raining’s Stairs Development named as one of Scotland’s best examples of architecture

Ark Estates is thrilled to announce that the Raining’s Stairs development has been named one of Scotland’s best examples of architecture for 2019.

The development, which was designed by Trail Architects for Ark Estates, won the top accolade at the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) awards on May 30th.

The judging panel said the Raining’s Stairs development:

“This social housing development is an inspired but pragmatic and affordable resolution of a difficult, extremely steep and almost inaccessible site located in the centre of Inverness.

“It has transformed and revitalised an all but abandoned no-go area of the city.”

The Raining’s Stairs Development was designed by Trail Architects, and built by William Gray Construction, with support from the Highland Council, Scottish Government and Highland Housing Alliance.

The development consists of 16 new one and two bedroom flats - as well as a small retail unit. Six of the flats within the development are available at affordable rent, with a further 10 being leased at mid-market rent by the Highland Housing Alliance.
